Ruby Sahota is a Canadian lawyer and federal Cabinet Minister who has served as a Member of Parliament since 2015. A dedicated public servant and experienced legislator, she represented the riding of Brampton North from 2015 to 2025. Following her successful re-election in 2025, she now represents the newly redistributed riding of Brampton North—Caledon.

Ruby holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Peace Studies from McMaster University and a Juris Doctor from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School. Prior to entering politics, she practiced commercial litigation law and international trade disputes.

In Parliament, she has held several prominent leadership roles. She served as Chief Government Whip in 2024, and subsequently as Minister of Democratic Institutions and Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario. In May 2025, she was appointed Secretary of State for Combatting Crime in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Mark Carney.

Throughout her tenure, Ruby has championed issues such as public safety, accessible transit, cost-of-living issues, affordable childcare, and human rights. She has been an active member of key parliamentary committees and chaired the Federal Liberal Ontario Caucus. Ruby lives in Brampton with her husband and their son.
